Sounds like they should hit your boots. It makes sense.
Maybe if it doesn't it should be suggested on the Suggestion forum.

Random. Might be weighted, but I don't have the patience to gather the data.

Dude please tell more clearly what you know... so its treated like a projectile hit (and unknown whether the boots have more than 1/8 chance of being hit) ?
Side question: do for Fire Storm / Meteor / Meteor Shower ... would they be projectiles? with perhaps a greater chance for head hit than normal?

I read in a article somewhere (I think in the article section) that skills raining from above aim at the head, so logically why shouldn't the ground hit boots? A majority of skills still are projectiles so chests have their fair share of fighting. If GW does announce that all of these are true, then people can better select there armor Selections, for example...
Head- Anti-Fire, helps against meteor shower/fire storm
Chest- Ice or lightning, most of the projectiles/instant spells probably hit there
Boots- Earth! No more earthquakes stoppin you bud.
Of course don't go running ingame and buying all of these parts, i'm just assuming this out of some info i read on GWG, doesn't mean its true...

Almost all would agree that hitting the boots is the most logical answer...
but that doesn't translate into actual gaming mechanic. It all boils down to whether these spells are direct hit or not... for which the accepted view is direct-hit magical attacks always hit the chest piece... and other forms hit any armor piece via an unknown formula which factors in position.

Would make sense, I think that's the general consensus, but whether they do or not is another matter.
AFAIK, I believe all direct damage, non-projectile, non-LOS spells hit your chestpiece exclusively.
This kind of leads me to another question: What about targetted skills like Pindown, does that always hit your feet, skullcracker your head, hamstring your legs, etc?

Nothing autohits anywhere anymore as far as I know. Again, skills like Earthquake might have a statistically better chance of hitting feet than your standard percentages, but I don't have the patience to test it.

holy crap I didn't know GW even bothered with Hitboxes.
I figured each piece of armor was just a new gold sink (so instead of buying a whole piece of armor you bought 5 differnet pieces and payed for each one).
But oh well, doesn't change anything.

I know someone is going to tell me I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that they hit your head, believe it or not.
I used to be an "anti-helmet" kinda guy. Never had a HUGE problem until I started fighting those darn Thorn Stalkers. I would take up to 200 damage from Stoning, Earthquake, etc. Then I just finally went and bought a helmet, and I began taking around 18 damage...

ok guys this is my conclusion:
Earthquake always hits (it CANNOT miss) so it must be a DD (direct damage) attack. So it either has a randomized hit location OR, as is generally accepted, auto-hits your chest piece.
The converse to this is a non-DD spell, like Lightning Javelin, which CAN miss -- and thus would likely involve hit-boxes, if they exist.
Any aye's or nay's?
